City Planning Commission Peter Weil Bob Scott Gerald Chalef

As an appointee of Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan, Bob Scott served 10 years as Commissioner and Past President of the Los Angeles City Planning Commission. He has also served on the California Small Business Advisory Commission, and on the board of California’s 51st Agricultural District.  In 1993 Bob chaired the L.A. City Task Force for Permit Streamlining, developing consensus among business and community leaders, reducing bureaucracy, and speeding up the City permit process.

Bob is the founding Chair of the Economic Alliance of the San Fernando Valley, 2006-2007 Chair of the Valley Industry & Commerce Association, as well as Past President of the Valley's United Chambers of Commerce, representing 23 local groups and over 7,600 member businesses. Bob was a key architect in charter reform for the City of Los Angeles, advocating principles of local empowerment. He has been active in city and school board redistricting and reform for over 30 years. He was the prime mover in the establishment of the San Fernando Valley Statistical District, and SCAG Planning Subregion.

Bob is the Director of the CivicCenter Group, a civic support and public policy enterprise providing planning, research, analysis, information and consulting services—primarily to non-profit organizations. As principal of his AV-rated law firm Scott and Associates, Bob has served as L.A. Superior Court Judge Pro Tem, and in addition to membership in the California and Federal Bars, is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court.  In 1999 he was the recipient of the San Fernando Valley Bar Association’s highest honor—the Stanley Lintz Award for service to the community and to the legal profession. In 2002 the Valley Industry & Commerce Association honored him with the Harmon G. Ballin Community Service Award. His proudest achievement is being the 44th annual recipient of the Fernando Award for lifetime achievement and volunteerism in the San Fernando Valley.

Bob currently serves as Project Director for Vision2020: The San Fernando Valley, a long-term visioning project of the Economic Alliance for the Valley region. He is heavily involved in Valley business issues—appearing frequently as guest and host on television, cablecasts, radio, and in local newspapers.

Born in Van Nuys, California in 1946, Bob currently lives in West Hills. He has a daughter Olivia who is 17.

Bob Scott founded Scott Printing & Advertising in Van Nuys in 1968. He operated the commercial printing and publishing company until 1980, and established his Sherman Oaks law firm. From 1980 to 2005 his attentions turned to his current field, the realm of planning, research and public policy.

Other involvement has included: Advisory Board, California College of Paralegal Studies; Director, Fernando Awards; Director, Valley Breakfast Forum; President, Mid-Valley Chamber of Commerce; Vice President, Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce; and President, Van Nuys Junior Chamber of Commerce

Past and present memberships include: American Bar Association, California Bar Association, Los Angeles County Bar Association, San Fernando Valley Bar Association, Los Angeles Trial Lawyers Association, San Fernando Valley Business & Professional Association, Master Printers of America, Printing Industry Association, California Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives, Mayor’s Transportation Advisory Committee, and co-founder and Chairman of the Valley Economic Development Center.

His charitable involvement spans the last 30 years and has included, United Way; Chairman, San Fernando Valley Public Transportation Committee; Chairman, Valley Orthopedic Clinic, Operation Amigo, Mexicali/Calexico/Los Angeles; Vice President, Valley Children's Playpark Association; American Cancer Society, Speakers Bureau; Little League, Coach; Boy Scouts, District Committee; Vice Chair, Committee Investigating Valley Independent City/County (1977); Chairman, Van Nuys Air Show; and the Mayor's Transportation Advisory Committee.

Bob has received numerous commendations from the United States Senate and House of Representatives, the Governor of California, California State Senate and Assembly, Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, the Mayor and City Council of Los Angeles, and many others. He is a recipient of the Daily News’ "Mendenhall Man of the Year" memorial award, and has received numerous internal organizational commendations.
